Social Capital

Editor's Note

Welcome to the latest edition of the Social Capital Newsletter. Social Capital is an intangible asset at the heart of a new and dynamic view of success, one that is changing business and the world as we know it. The foundation of a Social Capital company is a focus on people--employees, customers, and in the community. And that focus isn't only confined to our own planet. In "STAR Harbor Academy Proves The Sky Is Not The Limit," you can get a glimpse of how the organization's founder Maraia Tanner is orchestrating the "democratization of space" as a provider of space flight training for the commercial industry--and a vision of enabling the "average Joe or Jane" to fly. Read on for an inspiring example of what Social Capital leadership is likely to look like in the years ahead.

The most resilient organizations also have the most empathetic supervisors, according to new research. Supervisors' empathy scores were more than 1.4 times higher for companies that showed high resilience compared to those that scored lower, SHRM and GAP International found. This will come as no surprise to Social Capital leaders, who have always cared about their employees and designed their workplaces accordingly.
