Editor's Note
Welcome to the latest edition of the Social Capital Newsletter. Social Capital is an intangible asset at the heart of a new and dynamic view of success, one that is changing business and the world as we know it. It's no secret that there is a mental health crisis taking place around the world, after the long months of the pandemic. Recognizing that employees' mental wellness is just as important as their physical wellbeing, more Social Capital companies are providing services to support their mental health. In this weeks' lead feature, Allianz Life Insurance Ensures A Human-to-Human Connection, CEO Jasmine Jirele offers a close look at the work Allianz Life Insurance is doing to take care of its team members via its onsite healthcare centers, which offer mental health care. If you're looking for creative ideas to address the depression, anxiety and other signs of stress that members of your team are experiencing, this article will get you started. And for more inspiration, check out, "The Well-Being Factor."

The Earned Life: Lose Regret, Choose Fulfillment
Imagine living a life where you have no regrets. In The Earned Life, Social Capital leader Marshall Goldsmith and Mark Reiter will help you get there by breaking out of the Western disease of "I'll be happy when..." The Earned Life, as the authors put it, is about building a life where "the choices, risks and efforts we make in each moment align with an overarching purpose in our lives, regardless of the eventual outcome." You'll learn how to live the life you want, not "someone else's version of it," commit yourself to "earning" that life everyday and attaching your "earning moments" to a greater purpose. Goldsmith is one of the world's best-known executive coaches, and a font of wisdom about what helps high achievers live a life of purpose. For more of his big ideas, see "Marshall Goldsmith Shows Us How To Increase 'Value' By Giving It Away."

THE BUSINESS OPTIMIZER
You've heard of Quiet Quitting, where disengaged employees check out of an unrewarding job. What often comes before Quiet Quitting is Quiet Firing. It's basically pushing someone out by failing to provide adequate coaching, support and career development. And it's happening a lot. Just 22% of workers strongly agree that their manager continually helps them clarify work priorities, according to Gallup. Sometimes, a bad manager will intentionally create a toxic work experience, as a form of "gaslighting," according to Gallup. More often, it's unintentional. A leader gets busy and fails to make time for meaningful conversations. Of course, quiet firing will happen less if you provide constructive feedback to your team members all along, as entrepreneur Robert Glazer points out in "Don't Lie To Your Employees Even When The Truth Hurts."

Social Capital in Action
The holidays are the time of year many of us reconnect with our families, however we define them. As Social Capital leaders are proving over and over again, making sure that employees have plenty of time to spend with their loved ones is not only the right thing to do but it's an investment in the future of your workforce. Team members who feel they are constantly torn between being a good spouse, parent, child or friend and earning a paycheck will end up being unhappy and vote with their feet. It doesn't have to be that way, as you'll see in one of our best-read stories: "Family Still Matters: CEOs Who Support America's Most Important Institution."
