Boeing strike undercutting new CEO's plans

The quest by Boeing's new CEO to revive the aviation giant's fortunes suffered a serious blow when striking machinists voted down the latest contract proposal, prolonging a nearly six-week stoppage. Two-thirds of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers District 751 rejected the preliminary agreement, extending a walkout of some 33,000 Seattle-region employees. The vote came just hours after new Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg laid out his plan to restore Boeing's reputation after a series of safety problems and problematic projects.

Questions swirl around Trump deportations

Donald Trump's mass deportation plan has sparked analysis focused on the economic consequences of enacting such a plan, especially for certain industries. There's also doubts about the logistics behind such a massive undertaking. The 2022 American Community Survey said that there are 11 million undocumented immigrants. However, Trump has claims that this number is currently around 15 to 20 million, and House Speaker Mike Johnson estimated the number to be around 4.5 million.

LA eyes resentencing for Menendez brothers

Los Angeles' chief prosecutor said he would seek a resentencing for Lyle and Erik Menendez, brothers who were jailed for life in the 1990s over the grisly murder of their parents, in a move that could lead to their immediate parole. District Attorney George Gascon said he would ask a judge to rule that the men, whose case has gained renewed attention because of a Netflix series, should have their sentence reduced in a way that would make them eligible to be released in the coming months.
