President Joe Biden will be in Germany on Friday on a whirlwind trip to the NATO ally, with Western backing for Ukraine set to be high on the agenda at talks with Chancellor Olaf Scholz. Biden was originally due in Germany last week for a multi-day visit that would have included a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, but it was postponed due to Hurricane Milton. But the outgoing US leader was at pains to make his valedictory Germany trip, with the stripped-down program now squeezed into a one-day flying visit from late Thursday.

Arizona's Supreme Court sided with Republican U.S. Senate candidate Kari Lake on Wednesday in ruling that court records from the 2016 divorce of her Democratic opponent, Rep. Ruben Gallego, and his ex-wife, Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego, be unsealed. In a political fight that saw both Gallegos plead their cases, the state's highest court agreed with Lake's argument that the case is a matter of public record. Lake trails in the polls but could get a boost when the redacted versions of the court filing are released ahead of the Nov. 8 election.

Liam Payne, 31, a former member of the pop group One Direction, died Wednesday after falling from the third floor of a hotel in Argentina, according to multiple reports. Argentine police were called to the Casa Sur Hotel in Buenos Aires for a report of an "aggressive man who could be under the effects of drugs and alcohol." When police arrived they found Payne after he had apparently fallen from a balcony to his death.
