Biden, Trump differ on abortion pill ruling

President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump have offered contrasting responses to the Supreme Court's ruling on the abortion pill mifepristone. On Thursday, the Court voted unanimously to uphold access to the pill, a decision that maintains the status quo but does little to quell the ongoing debate over reproductive rights. But Biden stopped short of celebrating the ruling, instead framing it within the broader issue of reproductive freedom. Meanwhile, Trump has yet to clearly define his stance on mifepristone and broader abortion policies.

Huthi rebels injure US sailor in latest attack

Two cruise missiles launched by Yemen's Huthi rebels struck a bulk cargo carrier in the Gulf of Aden on Thursday, severely injuring a sailor who was evacuated by American forces, the US military said. The Huthis have been targeting vessels in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden since November 2023 in attacks they say are in solidarity with Palestinians during the ongoing Israel-Hamas war in the Gaza Strip.

Polar bears, gray whales vs. climate change

A team of scientists said Thursday that polar bears face local extinction in Hudson Bay by mid-century if global warming exceeds limits set under the Paris climate accords. Climate change has increased the time Arctic sea ice is too thin for polar bears to hunt seals. In another study, Pacific coast gray whales have shrunk in length by 13%, adding to evidence that climate change is making marine mammals smaller.
