Gaza protests spread on college campuses

An uneasy truce between pro-Palestinian student demonstrators and officials at New York's Columbia University was in place Wednesday, after a deadline to forcibly disperse their protest encampment expired. The prestigious institution is at the core of demonstrations spreading to universities across the US over the Israel-Hamas war and the crisis in Gaza, where the death toll has topped 34,000 so far. The students are calling on Columbia to divest from companies with ties to Israel.

TikTok vows to fight US ban in the courts

TikTok's CEO vowed Wednesday to fight in the courts to overturn a new US law that could see the app banned due to allegations it is controlled by China's communist government. The law gives TikTok nine months to divest from its Chinese parent company ByteDance or be shut out of the US market. Critics say TikTok is a conduit to spread propaganda and an arm of China's government, which Beijing denies.

Swifties crack case of London pub in song

"The Black Dog" was a quiet London pub until it became a pilgrimage site for Taylor Swift fans who identified it in a song on her new album, "The Tortured Poets Department"/"The Anthology", where sings about being able to still track an ex-boyfriend's location on her phone. "Swifties" immediately set out to identify the notorious "Black Dog", quickly concluding that Swift's ex-partner, actor Joe Alwyn, lived nearby.
