Israel pressured not to strike back at Iran

Israel is facing pressure from its allies to refrain from striking back at Iran for its unprecedented missile and drone attack as Washington and Brussels vowed to ramp up sanctions against the Islamic republic. Middle East tensions, which have soared amid the Israel-Hamas war raging in Gaza since October 7, have been stoked further as Iran has vowed to hit back if its arch foe Israel launches any further attacks.

Biden calls for triple tariffs on China metals

President Joe Biden is urging a tripling of tariffs on Chinese steel and aluminum as he visits Pittsburgh Wednesday, citing "unfair competition" while seeking to win blue-collar votes in November's election. Biden's call comes as the US Trade Representative announced it is launching a probe into China's trade practices in the shipbuilding, maritime and logistics sectors in response to a recent petition by five US unions.

NBA suspends player for life over gambling

The NBA banned Toronto Raptors forward Jontay Porter for life on Wednesday after a bombshell probe found he bet on league matches -- dubbed a "cardinal sin" by NBA commissioner Adam Silver. The league said that Porter, who spent part of his season in the NBA and part of it in the G League, also shared information on his fitness with a bettor and removed himself from a game to influence wagers on his own play.
