  • US lawmakers to meet today about national security threat 

    The United States is facing a new and "serious" national security threat, top officials warned Wednesday, with two media outlets reporting it involves a Russian attempt to build a space-based nuclear capability. The outlets reported that Russia is developing a nuclear, space-based anti-satellite weapon, which Russia has not yet deployed such a capability. The issue will be discussed today between congressional leaders and the White House.

Trump to appear today at hush-money trial

Former President Donald Trump is set to attend an important hearing today, when a timetable for the trial in the New York hush-money case against him will be determined. The hearing holds particular importance as the judge is expected to rule on key pretrial issues, deciding if the trial will proceed as scheduled on March 25. If it goes forward, it would be the first of Trump's four criminal indictments to reach the trial stage.

Shooting spoils KC Chiefs' Super Bowl rally

At least one person died and multiple people were injured when gunfire broke out at the Kansas City Chiefs' Super Bowl rally on Wednesday, triggering panic among huge crowds of fans gathered to celebrate their team's NFL title. Police said two armed individuals were taken into custody following the shooting at Union Station, just yards from where Chiefs players had addressed cheering supporters moments earlier.
