Megalodon was likely thinner than depicted
The prehistoric megalodon, one of the most fearsome creatures the world has ever known, was a horrifyingly giant shark immortalized in the monster movie "The Meg". But new fossil evidence, scientists said on Monday, makes them think the shark was significantly thinner than previously thought. Megalodon, which went extinct around 3.6 million years ago, is thought to have been up to 50 feet long. But estimates were based on the only remaining fossils -- teeth and vertebrae.
