House votes for Biden impeachment inquiry

The Republican-controlled US House of Representatives voted along party lines Wednesday, 221-212, to open a formal impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden based on his son's controversial international dealings -- a move deemed baseless by Democrats. Republicans have yet to provide any solid evidence of corruption by the president, and the Democrat-led Senate would be unlikely to convict the US leader. But the episode would prove a major headache for Biden as he campaigns to keep his job for a second term ahead of the 2024 general election.

Tesla recalls 2M EVs over autopilot system

Tesla has initiated a recall of over two million vehicles in the US due to a risk linked to its autopilot software, the US traffic safety regulator said Wednesday. The recall affects models across Tesla's portfolio and will be addressed by an "over-the-air software remedy" typically performed remotely and not involving a shop visit. After a two-year probe, NHTSA found that autopilot "can provide inadequate driver engagement and usage controls that can lead to foreseeable misuse of the system."

Argentina's reforms taking a toll on citizens

Argentine President Javier Milei, with just three days on the job, has warned the country's economic crisis is likely to get worse before it gets better. His government has unveiled a raft of measures to revive an economy, ranging from the devaluation of the strictly controlled peso to a cut in generous transport and fuel subsidies. The goal is to slash $25 billion in spending, 5% of the country's GDP, in a bid to reform a chronic fiscal deficit in Latin America's third-largest economy.
