Ex-hostages report being drugged, abused

Hostages hauled into Gaza during Hamas' October 7 attack on Israel were drugged to keep them docile in captivity and subjected to psychological and sexual abuse, a specialist said Monday. The center has received 14 ex-hostages released by Hamas, some of whom reported being drugged with depressants and being subjected to psychological abuse. One former hostage was told his wife was dead when in fact she was still alive back in Israel. Another patient said she and others were held in total darkness for more than four days.

Texas woman forced to travel for abortion

A Texas woman has been forced to leave the state for an emergency abortion after being prevented from terminating her life-threatening pregnancy, a court filing by her lawyers said Monday. Kate Cox, a 31-year-old mother of two from Dallas, is more than 20 weeks pregnant with a fetus that has a rare genetic defect that means it will likely die before or shortly after birth. Doctors said that unless the pregnancy is terminated, it could threaten both Cox's life and her future fertility.

Need more cowbell? Swiss city to vote on it

Cows grazing on lush pastures with ornate metal bells gently tinkling around their necks is a symbol of Switzerland, but not everyone is enchanted by it. In the village of Aarwangen, a complaint was filed over noise levels from a herd of 15 cows grazing overnight on a field next to a residential area. Two couples overlooking the field want the farmer to remove the bells at night. Reaction was swift and fierce, with over-whelming demands for a local vote to protect the traditional bells.

Extra point

In the classic "Saturday Night Live" skit titled "More Cowbell," who plays the role of the fictitious cowbell player for the band Blue Oyster Cult?

Monday's answer: The iconic, century-old Hollywood sign originally read "Hollywoodland," serving as a high-end real estate advertisement.
