  • Black Friday, Cyber Monday shopping records fall once again

    The number of people shopping during the Thanksgiving weekend, or the period from Thanksgiving through Cyber Monday, rose to a record 200.4 million, according to the National Retail Federation. The final result was 1.9% above last year's record of 196.7 million and surpassed NRF's own estimate of 182 million.

Google opens first geothermal energy plant

Google began producing electricity from a state-of-the-art geothermal energy pilot plant in Northern Nevada on Tuesday. The project, which Google initially launched in 2021 alongside operator Fervo, has successfully harnessed geothermal energy without using a natural reservoir of geothermal fluids, a technological milestone poised to increase the total number of feasible geothermal energy projects around the world. Google and Fervo's pilot plant in Nevada has already led to plans for a second, larger geothermal facility in Utah.

Nikki Haley gets endorsement from Kochs

Americans for Prosperity Action, a political network founded by conservative billionaire brothers David and Charles Koch, officially endorsed Nikki Haley for the U.S. presidential elections on Tuesday. AFP Action said its internal polling is showing that Haley can defeat Republican front-runner Donald Trump in the GOP primaries and beat Biden by 10 percentage points in the November 2024 general election.

Santos facing possible expulsion this week

Embattled Representative George Santos (R-N.Y.) is facing another attempt to expel him from the House of Representatives this week. Rep. Robert Garcia (D-Calif.) introduced Tuesday a new privileged resolution that could force the House to vote within the next two days on whether or not to expel Santos for fraud. Two-thirds of House representatives need to vote in favor of the expulsion for it to pass.
