Biden confirms release of 10 US hostages, including Abigail
Abigail Idan, a 4-year-old American girl, is safely in Israel after being released from captivity Sunday in Gaza, President Joe Biden said as he called for more hostage releases. Biden said 58 hostages have been released by Hamas during the temporary halt in fighting, through what he called "intensive US diplomacy" by himself and administration officials dealing with Israel, Qatar, Egypt and others. He said he hoped to see the pause extended.

COP28 carries high hopes for progress on climate change
The UAE's Sultan Al Jaber, the president of the forthcoming UN climate conference in Dubai, is "cautiously optimistic" that the pivotal talks will be successful. Jaber, CEO of Emirati oil giant ADNOC, said he would hold "everyone" accountable for keeping within reach the target set by the 2015 Paris Agreement of limiting the rise in the global average temperature to 1.5 degrees Celsius.

Russia says it shot down Ukrainian drones

Russia said Sunday it had downed Ukrainian drones over five regions, including Moscow, as well as two Ukrainian missiles over the Azov Sea, a day after a large-scale Russian drone attack on Kyiv. Russia and Ukraine have hit each with drones for months, as Moscow's war drags in to a 22nd month, with little significant movement on the front, despite fierce fighting. Russia said the drones hit the Moscow region, other regions near the capital as well as regions bordering Ukraine.

Thousands protest anti-Semitism in London

Thousands of demonstrators, some waving Israeli and British flags, marched against anti-Semitism through central London on Sunday. The protest came a day after large pro-Palestinian crowds hit the streets of Britain's capital to demand a full ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war. The UK has seen a spike in anti-Semitic incidents since the October 7 Hamas attacks on Israel unleashed the latest conflict in the Gaza Strip.

Box office: 'Hunger Games' tops 'Napoleon'

The "Hunger Games" prequel stayed atop the North American box office over the long Thanksgiving weekend, fending off an invasion by new Ridley Scott film "Napoleon," industry watcher Exhibitor Relations reported Sunday. Lionsgate's "The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes" took in an estimated $42 million from Wednesday through Sunday -- boosted by Thanksgiving holiday moviegoers.
