Armenia faces major policy rift with Russia

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on Sunday signaled a major foreign policy shift away from Russia following Moscow's refusal to enter the latest conflict over disputed Nagorno-Karabakh. Pashinyan told the nation in a major television address that his former Soviet republic's current foreign security alliances were "ineffective" and "insufficient". He added that Armenia should join the International Criminal Court (ICC) -- a tribunal which has issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin over his actions in Ukraine.

Major asteroid sample recovery a NASA first

A seven-year space voyage came to its climactic end Sunday when a NASA capsule landed in the desert in the US state of Utah, carrying to Earth the largest asteroid samples ever collected. Scientists have high hopes for the sample, saying it will provide a better understanding of the formation of our solar system and how Earth became habitable. The 3.86-billion-mile trek was the first sample return mission of its kind.

The Red Sea's spectacular coral reefs face a new threat, marine biologists warn -- the mass death of sea urchins that may be caused by a mystery disease. Because the long-spined creatures feed on algae that can suffocate coral systems, their die-off could "destroy our entire coral reef ecosystem", warned scientist Lisa-Maria Schmidt.
