Tense times in Gulf following US-Iran deal

Western naval forces operating in the Gulf have warned ships sailing in the strategic Strait of Hormuz against approaching Iranian waters to avoid the risk of seizure. The warnings follow a week that saw the US boost its military presence in the region, and an agreement between Washington and Tehran that has raised hopes of reducing tensions between the adversaries. This comes days after the US and Iran reached an agreement to release five American prisoners in exchange for the release of Iranian funds frozen for humanitarian purposes.

Climate change impacts insurance, tourism

The insurance industry is becoming increasingly sensitive to the effects of climate change on their businesses. Some insurers are reducing coverage or new policies in California and Florida. This raises difficult questions about the future of doing business in certain regions of the U.S. Numerous climate alarm bells rang in the summer of 2023 as the Northern Hemisphere wilted from heat and dealt with magnified storms. On Tuesday, the World Meteorological Association declared July 2023 was the "hottest month ever recorded," after heat made the headlines.

'Barbie' still riding high after historic debut

Warner Bros.' hit "Barbie" dominated North American box offices for a fourth consecutive week, industry estimates showed Sunday, as director Greta Gerwig continues to bust industry records. Gerwig, who with "Barbie" had already become the first solo woman director to rake in more than $1 billion at the global box office, this week became the highest-grossing woman director of all time in the domestic market.
