Russia bombs Odesa; Ukraine vows revenge

Russia's latest missile attack on Odesa left two dead Sunday, wounded many and badly damaged a UNESCO-listed Orthodox cathedral, drawing a vow of retaliation from Ukraine's leader. The strike on the port city, which Russia has pounded since pulling out of the Black Sea grain deal, came just hours before Russian President Vladimir Putin met his Belarus counterpart for talks. Ukrainian leader Volodmyr Zelensky promised to strike back at Russia for the deadly attack.

G20 leaders drop ball on fossil fuel roadmap

Energy ministers from the group of 20 nations meeting in India over the weekend failed to agree on a roadmap to phase down the use of fossil fuels in the global energy mix. A final statement made no mention of coal, a major contributor to global warming. Many campaigners were dismayed by the failure to reach a deal on COP goals, including tripling the world's renewable capacity and doubling energy efficiency by 2030.

'Barbenheimer' makes big box office splash

With legions of pink-clad moviegoers swarming theaters, Warner Bros.' "Barbie" conquered North American box offices in its debut weekend, raking in $155 million -- nearly double its runner-up competitor. The other half of the "Barbenheimer" cinematic weekend, Universal's biopic "Oppenheimer" released the same day, brought in A whopping $80.5 million and spurred an estimated 200,000 to take in the double feature.
