Patriot air defense system struck in Ukraine

A high-tech Patriot air defense system provided to Ukraine suffered damage but is still working, a US defense official said Wednesday. "The Patriot system remains operational" and the damage -- caused by an unspecified projectile -- is being assessed. Ukraine repeatedly pushed for its supporters to provide the Patriot system to help shield against relentless Russian strikes targeting civilians and infrastructure. Ukraine said it forces recently shot down 25 of 25 missiles fired by Russia.

World more likely than not to hit 1.5C mark

For the first time ever, global temperatures are now more likely than not to breach 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7 degrees Fahrenheit) of warming within the next five years, the WMO said Wednesday. This does not mean the world would cross the long-term warming threshold of 1.5C above pre-industrial levels set out in the 2015 Paris Agreement. But a year of warming at 1.5C could offer insight to what crossing the long-term threshold, based on the 30-year global average, would be like.

Nintendo sells 10M 'Zelda' copies in 3 days

The latest edition of smash-hit video game franchise "Zelda" sold more than 10 million copies in its first three days, Japanese firm Nintendo said on Wednesday. The company said in a statement that "Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom" was now the fastest-selling game in the history of the franchise, which first hit the shops in 1986. The rapid sales of Zelda outstripped this year's other blockbuster game release, "Hogwarts Legacy", which took two weeks to register 12 million sales.
