Migrant crossings fall after Title 42 expires

Migrant crossings at the U.S.-Mexico border have fallen, not increased as expected, since Title 42 curbs expired last week. Tougher criminal penalties for illegal entry is likely the cause, the Biden administration said. U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said border patrol agents have seen a 50% drop in the number of migrants crossing the border since Thursday, when Biden's administration adopted a new asylum regulation meant to deter illegal crossings.

Special counsel slams Trump-Russia probe

The FBI investigation into alleged collusion between Donald Trump's 2016 presidential campaign and Russia was based on flimsy evidence and seriously flawed, an independent US prosecutor said in a report published Monday. Special Counsel John Durham was appointed in 2019 by then-president Trump's attorney general Bill Barr to address claims made by Trump that the investigation was a political "witch hunt."

Pele's football-turfed tomb opens in Brazil

Six months after the death of the man widely considered the greatest footballer of all time, the final resting place for Pele opened on Monday. The public lined up in his native Santos to see the football-turfed tomb. Brazil's favorite son died at 82 after a battle with cancer. He was laid to rest at the Ecumenical Memorial Cemetery in a 14-story mausoleum that holds the Guinness world record for the tallest cemetery on Earth.
