UN admits failures in earthquake recovery

The United Nations decried Sunday the failure to ship desperately needed aid to war-torn regions of Syria, while warning the death toll of more than 33,000 from the earthquake that also struck Turkey is set to rise far higher. Rescues efforts slowed Sunday, six days after one of the worst natural disasters to hit parts of Syria and Turkey. Facing questions over his handling of Turkey's most devastating earthquake since 1939, President Tayyip Erdogan promised to start rebuilding within weeks. In Syria, the disaster hit hardest in rebel-held territory, the region has received little aid compared to government-held areas.
