  • Boeing, Dell, Zoom are latest companies to implement layoffs

    Dell, the landmark computer manufacturing company, will be cutting 6,650 employees, or 5% of its global workforce, according to an SEC filing. Also on Tuesday, Zoom announced that it would be laying off 1,300 employees, or 15% of its workforce.The moves are the latest example of tech companies making cuts to maneuver their way through an uncertain economic climate.

Death toll rises in Turkey-Syria earthquake

More than 7,800 people have been killed in Turkey and Syria after a magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck Turkey and Syria on Monday. Turkey's vice president Fuat Oktay called the earthquake the "disaster of the century." According to officials on Tuesday, there are 7,826 dead with 5,894 fatalities in Turkey and 1,932 fatalities in Syria. More than 20,000 people have been injured. The World Health Organization has estimated that up to 20,000 may have died as rescue efforts continue.

Memphis cop took, shared Nichols photos

A Memphis police officer photographed a bludgeoned and handcuffed Tyre Nichols and shared the image with five people in violation of policy. In the Jan. 7 fatal beating that led to a national outcry, the officer violated a ban on sharing information to unauthorized recipients. The report came after the city attorney said seven more Memphis police officers are expected to face formal disciplinary charges this week.

Texas becomes latest state to ban TikTok

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott announced a new statewide security plan for state agencies, seeking to address vulnerabilities presented by the use of TikTok by banning the app from state government-issued devices and networks. Abbott's decision makes Texas the latest state to take concrete action addressing security concerns regarding TikTok, joining others that have banned the app's use on government-issued devices.
