New York, Illinois make gun control gains

The Supreme Court on Wednesday allowed New York to enforce a Democratic-backed gun control law adopted after the justices last year struck down the state's strict firearms licensing regime in a landmark ruling that expanded gun rights. Meanwhile in Illinois, Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed the Protect Illinois Communities Act into law, making it the ninth state in the country to ban the sale and distribution of assault weapons.

First lady Jill Biden recovers from surgery

U.S. first lady Jill Biden underwent surgery on Wednesday to remove two skin lesions on her face and a third on her chest, the White House physician said. The 71-year-old first lady, accompanied by President Joe Biden, spent more than eight hours at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center for the outpatient procedure. All cancerous tissue was removed and she is recovering at the White House.

Internet sleuths shut out of Idaho murders

A former FBI agent has shut down internet sleuths on the Idaho Murders case, saying the social media users' allegations are becoming a problem. Former FBI agent Jonathan Gilliam said the armchair detectives are inciting issues during the investigation, targeting the surviving roommate who waited to call police and a man who looked like the suspected killer attending a prayer vigil for the four victims.
