  • More than 1 million immigrants became US citizens in 2022

    Nearly 1 million adult immigrants became U.S. citizens in the year ending in September, a high not reached since 2008. Counting children, 1,023,200 immigrants were granted citizenship in that time, according to a U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) report. The record-high number could be due to the large backlog of applications created during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Orion splashes down after record lunar lap

NASA's uncrewed Orion capsule returned to Earth on Sunday after the final return leg of its voyage around the moon and back, winding up the inaugural mission of the Artemis lunar program 50 years to the day after Apollo's final moon landing. The Orion capsule, carrying a simulated crew of three mannequins wired with sensors, gently rode its parachute into the Pacific Ocean near Guadalupe Island, off Mexico's Baja California peninsula, as the next phase of the program begins.

Lockerbie bombing suspect in US custody

A Libyan man accused of making the bomb that killed 270 people after it blew up Pan Am flight 103 over Lockerbie in Scotland in 1988 is in U.S. custody, law enforcement officials said on Sunday. Abu Agila Mohammad Mas'ud Kheir Al-Marimi was taken into custody about two years after the U.S.  filed charges against him. Mas'ud is expected to make his initial court appearance in a federal court in Washington.
