Tesla beats Q3 earnings but revenue falters

Electric carmaker Tesla doubled its profits for the third quarter over last year but missed expectations for revenue, as the company announced its Q3 earnings Wednesday. Tesla reported $3.33 billion in income, or $1.05 in earnings per share, beating the $0.99-per-share forecast. Tesla reported $21.45 billion in revenue, short of the $21.96 billion expected. The report comes at a shaky few months for an auto industry hit with high interest rates, slowing demand and shipping issues.

UN targeting Iran for Russian drone sales

Russia on Wednesday warned the United Nations not to probe alleged strikes by Iranian-made drones in Ukraine, joining Tehran in denying the weapons' origin as the European Union prepared new sanctions. The U.S., France and Britain called a closed-door Security Council meeting on the alleged sale of drones to Russia. The EU and U.S. said they had evidence that Iran supplied the Shahed-136s, low-cost drones blamed for five civilian deaths and mass destruction in the capital Kyiv.

Webb Telescope snaps iconic 'Pillars' image

The James Webb Space Telescope captured the iconic "Pillars of Creation," huge structures of gas and dust teeming with stars, NASA said Wednesday, and the image is as majestic as one could hope. The twinkling of thousands of stars illuminates the telescope's first shot of the gigantic gold, copper and brown columns. At the ends of several pillars are bright red spots "from stars that are still forming," NASA said. The "Pillars of Creation" are located 6,500 light years from Earth.
