  • Netflix, Disney+ poised to shake up steaming service with ads

    With the launch of cheaper, ad-supported subscriptions, Netflix and Disney+ are expected to bite into the revenue of traditional television channels as the streaming services look to expand. After having long-shunned the notion of advertising on its platform, Netflix is expected to launch an ad-supported subscription tier in November, about a month before rival Disney+ is expected to do the same.

US warns Russia against nuclear escalation

The U.S. warned Russia on Sunday of "catastrophic consequences" if Moscow were to use nuclear weapons in Ukraine, after Russia's foreign minister said regions holding widely-criticized referendums would get full protection if annexed. Votes in four eastern Ukrainian regions, aimed at annexing territory Russia has taken by force, were staged for a third day as the Russian parliament could move to formalize the vote within days. Florida braces for midweek landfall from Ian

Tropical Storm Ian continued to gain strength Sunday in the Caribbean as forecasters expect it to reach major hurricane status and threaten Florida. Ian is tracking northwest towards the Cayman Islands and western Cuba, and the NWS put up warnings from the west coast of Florida to the Panhandle by the middle of the week. President Joe Biden postponed an upcoming trip to Florida and issued an emergency declaration for the state, and Gov. Ron DeSantis has declared a state of emergency.

Rihanna to headline Super Bowl 57 halftime

Grammy-winning singer Rihanna announced on Sunday that she will headline the Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show. Rihanna confirmed the news in an Instagram post featuring her tattooed hand holding a football with the NFL logo. It was the 34-year-old's first post since May, when she gave birth to her first child. Super Bowl LVII takes place on Feb. 12, 2023, at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, and will be televised by Fox.
