Biden to tout recent wins before midterms

President Joe Biden plans to travel across the country to tout a series of recent legislative victories on climate change, gun control and drug pricing as a win for Americans and a defeat for special interests, White House officials said. Biden, whose public approval rating rose this week to its highest in two months, plans to for rally Democrats ahead of Nov. 8 midterm elections. The Senate this week approved Biden-plan to fight climate change, lower drug prices and raise some corporate taxes. The Inflation Reduction Act is expected to pass the House on Friday.

California enacts water plan amid drought

California Gov. Gavin Newsom unveiled a new water strategy that plans for a future with 10% less water and shifts the emphasis from conservation to capturing more water that otherwise flows out to sea. Climate change has contributed to more severe drought but has also set the stage for more intense flooding when rain does fall, as was the case last week in Death Valley, one of the driest parts of the U.S.

Ice-Age human footprints reveal secrets

Human footprints left behind by Ice-Age hunter-gatherers and recently discovered by accident in a U.S. desert are shedding new light on North America's earliest human inhabitants. Dozens of fossilized prints found in dried-up riverbeds in the western state of Utah reveal more details about how the continent's original occupants lived more than 12,000 years ago -- just as the frozen planet was starting to thaw.
