Twitter shares plummet as war of words heats up with Musk
Twitter shares plunged Monday as Elon Musk issued a mocking, defiant commentary about a looming court battle after he ditched a $44 billion buyout of the social media giant. Twitter shares fell 11.3% to finish at $32.65, with analysts saying Musk's exit places the company in a vulnerable state. After weeks of threats, Musk pulled out of the deal, accusing Twitter of "misleading" statements about the number of fake accounts and prompting the threat of a lawsuit. Not intimidated, Musk took to Twitter to troll the company.

Euro reaches parity with US dollar for first time in 20 years
The euro is worth about the same as the U.S. dollar for the first time in nearly two decades. As of Monday, 1.00 euro was equal to $1.0062584 dollars. This is a result of the euro dropping around 20% over the past 14 months due to economic issues. The last time it happened the euro dropped below 90 cents in 2000, one year after the formation of the European Union and its currency.

Biden hails passage of bipartisan gun bill

President Joe Biden hailed the passage of a bipartisan gun control bill as a first step towards what he hopes will be further action to reduce gun violence after a summer marred by numerous mass shootings. At the White House on Monday, Biden praised Congress for taking action on gun control and said the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act that was passed last month "finally moved that mountain" to reform gun laws. Not everyone was happy as a heckler called for Biden to do more.

If not Biden, who in 2024? Dems weigh in

Despite President Joe Biden's stated plan to run for reelection in 2024, a new poll shows that most Democrats do not want him to seek a second term. A majority of Democratic voters (64%) who participated in the study said they would prefer an alternative to Biden. Only 26% said they would support Biden for reelection. The poll lines up with others that show Biden's most recent job-approval rating at only 33%.
