Jan. 6 hearings open with damning testimony against Trump

Congressional hearings into the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol by former President Donald Trump's supporters opened Thursday with a prime-time TV presentation, as the committee's chairman vowed to detail a "conspiracy to thwart the will of the people." The House Select Committee showed videotaped testimony from senior Trump White House officials, including daughter Ivanka Trump dismissing his election fraud claims, and live witness accounts from a Capitol Police officer and documentary filmmaker.

3 in 4 CFOs surveyed expect recession to strike US in 2023

U.S. businesses and consumers have been mired in discussions about whether the economy will tip into a recession -- and when. According to a survey of corporate executives, the recession is coming sooner than later. A new study compiled the sentiments of many CFOs across the economy, showing 73% surveyed said that they predict a recession will strike in early 2023. Not a single CFO said they believe that the economy will avoid a recession.

7 in 8 Americans report financial stress due to rising inflation

87% of Americans reported that they suffer some form of financial stress due to inflation, according to a poll that surveyed over 1,000 participants from April 21 to May 12. With prices rising due to inflation that has been caused in part by the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the COVID-19 pandemic and supply chain issues, participants were asked “how much, if at all, have recent price increases been a financial stress on your household?”
