    In an email sent to all employees, Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi said the company will cut spending and hiring to focus on investor returns and shareholder confidence. "It’s clear that the market is experiencing a seismic shift and we need to react accordingly," he said, adding that from now on Uber "will treat hiring as a privilege and be deliberate about when and where we add headcount."

Alabama jailbreak ends with police chase

Alabama fugitive Casey White and former corrections officer Vicky White are in custody Monday following a police chase that ended with a car crash in Evansville, Indiana. Vicky White was hospitalized with a self-inflicted gunshot wound as police said officers did not fire shots. The pair, who are not related and were involved in a prison romance, were on the run since April 29 when she helped him escape. Police say the two were spotted at a hotel and a police chase later ensued.

US sees massive population shift in 2021

The South became an increasingly popular place for people in the U.S. to move in 2021, according to a look at recent relocation patterns. A new study by the Penske Corporation found the most popular moving destination in the U.S. last year was Houston. In fact, three Texas cities fell within the top 10 relocation destinations in the U.S. for 2021 while many Northern cities continued to lose residents amid the pandemic.

Low water levels tap Lake Mead cold cases

Historically low water levels out West are causing enough issues, but they're also giving local police a heavier case load. Lake Mead's water levels have fallen so low that two bodies believed to be the victims of decades-old foul play were discovered in the past week. One victim's body that was found in a barrel is suspected of being submerged for over four decades before water levels reached unprecedented lows.
