A second booster shot of COVID-19 vaccines has been approved by the FDA for ages 50 and over. Regulators authorized a second booster dose of Pfizer and Moderna vaccines Tuesday for the age group. The potential surge also comes as immunity in older and immunocompromised individuals begins to diminish and a new subvariant becomes the dominant strain in the U.S.
