Gunmaker settles with Sandy Hook families

the families of victims of the 2012 Sandy Hook massacre reached a $73 million legal settlement with rifle manufacturer Remington on Tuesday. The families’ victory is the first time victims of a violent crime have successfully sued a gunmaker for their weapons’ use in a crime. The decade-long saga began in the aftermath of the 2012, massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, when Adam Lanza killed 20 first-graders and six teachers with an M-16 rifle.

Facebook facing suit over data collection

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has filed a lawsuit against Meta, Facebook's parent company, for its unauthorized access to users' biometric data, including the use of facial-recognition software to gather and sell data from users and non-users alike. Paxton alleges in his lawsuit that Facebook stores biometric identifiers of users and non-users from photos or videos uploaded to the app without their knowledge or permission. Paxton alleges they are doing it for profit.

Streaming throws off Super Bowl ratings

Sunday's Super Bowl viewership was up significantly this year, even though the traditional TV ratings don't reflect it. The L.A. Rams' win over the Cincinnati Bengals was watched by more than 112 million Americans, but 10% of those caught it via streaming rather than NBC. That glitch made the game TV's lowest rated since Super Bowl III.
