Russia rejects US response as tensions rise on Ukraine border
The Kremlin has â€œlittle ground for optimismâ€ about ending the conflict with Ukraine, spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Thursday. The comments come as the U.S. has threatened economic sanctions against Russia for its military buildup along the border and after rejecting Russiaâ€™s demands that Ukraine not be admitted to NATO. The Defense Department said on Thursday that Russia has increased forces near the Ukrainian border â€œin the last 24 hours.â€

Late rally helps GDP grow 5.7% in 2021, highest in 36 years
The U.S economy finished 2021 on a strong note, notching a 5.7% increase in overall GDP despite risks from COVID-19 and inflation. The latest numbers showed a robust 6.9% rise in December, pushing annualized GDP growth to its highest level since 1984.
