Consumer spending increased for holidays

The results are early, but it appears Americans spent a lot more this holiday season than last year. Mastercard's SpendingPulse report shows that holiday sales grew 8.5% year-over-year, with online sales growing 11%. The spending period spanned from Nov. 1 through Christmas Eve.

Archbishop Desmond Tutu passes at 90

The world lost a human and civil rights icon Sunday with the death of South African Archbishop Desmond Tutu. He was 90 and spent most of those years advocating for equal rights and helping end apartheid in his home nation, earning Tutu the 1984 Nobel Peace Prize for his work.
