  • Senate votes to head off debt ceiling crisis through 2023

    The Senate voted Tuesday to raise the federal debt limit, moving the country a step closer to eliminating the threat of a calamitous credit default -- just one day ahead of the deadline set by the Treasury. The deeply divided upper chamber of Congress voted to raise the cap by $2.5 trillion and the House is expected to follow suit in the days The move would stave off the next showdown until at least 2023.

  • Wholesale prices rise at the highest rate of inflation on record

    The U.S. economy set the kind of records you really don't want to break Tuesday as prices for wholesale goods jumped 9.6% for the year ending in November -- the fastest price hike on record. The PPI was higher than the 9.2% annual gain expected by forecasters. With the exception of food and energy prices, which are more volatile, core PPI increased 6.9%, which was also the highest gain on record.

Meadows facing criminal contempt charges

The House voted to recommend criminal contempt charges against Donald Trump's former top aide Mark Meadows for refusing to testify before the congressional panel investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol. The rebuke moves the ultra-conservative ex-congressman a step closer to becoming the first White House chief of staff to be prosecuted since H.R. Haldeman in the Watergate scandal nearly 50 years ago.
