Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine received full FDA approval on Monday, potentially convincing the inoculation hesitant to roll up their sleeves and get the shot.

3 things you must know
  • FDA issues full approval of Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine

Nine months after the U.S. started putting shots in arms under emergency use authorization, the FDA officially and fully approved Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine on Monday. The move comes after long-running studies following up on 45,000 initial test trial participants, proving the vaccine is both safe and 91% effective against the virus.

Health officials hope the report will convince some of the 83 million eligible but unvaccinated Americans to get the shot. The report also green-lighted inoculations for children 12 and over and approved a third booster shot for high-risk individuals. The report also clears the way for employers and the US military to enact vaccine mandates.

Target also has added Apple, Ulta and Levi's shops in its stores. The news comes after Macy's said it is reviving the Toys 'R' Us brand in its stores in a big shop-in-shop bid.

  • Elon Musk admits Tesla's self-driving system is "not great"

Many consider SpaceX and Tesla CEO Elon Musk a genius, and he may well be. But the multi-billionaire is also a master of the obvious, as evidenced by his comments Monday acknowledging that Tesla's under-fire Autopilot system is "actually not great (in my opinion)."

News flash, Elon; that's a widely held opinion. Just ask the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that is investigating 11 crashes that may have involved Autopilot failure, or the two senators who have called for a massive review of Tesla's self-driving technology. Musk is likely trying to reign in the hype his company has promoted.

US racing the clock to evacuate Afghanistan

The US has exactly one week left to complete its mass evacuations from Afghanistan, at least according to the agreement the US struck with the Taliban. As the US continues to struggle to get American citizens and friendly nationals out of the country, the Taliban isn't offering extensions.

The Taliban warned the US that there would be "consequences" if the Americans do not leave the country by the established date -- with or without all the evacuees. President Joe Biden addressed the deadline and discussed his plan to enlist commercial airlines into the evacuation effort. It's a massive undertaking that even the US called "impossible" to pull off.

Cuomo out, Hochul in as governor of NY

While "the city that never sleeps" was sleeping last night, a historic change in New York state government transpired as Gov. Andrew Cuomo's resignation kicked in at midnight and Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul became the first female to be sworn in to the state's highest office.

Cuomo made a bitter closing statement Monday blaming overzealous prosecution over sexual misconduct claims made against him. However, he also announced he would not seek re-election for the office. That's no big relief for Hochul, who is seeing bipartisan support - but for how long?

'C' is for cookie; 'S' is for strike at Nabisco

For the most part, Americans have fared well during a pandemic that has created shortages of everything from toilet paper to coffee. But a word of warning, don't mess with our cookies. A labor dispute between Nabisco workers and upper-management threatens to hit us in the sweet tooth.

Nabisco workers at plants across the country are walking off the Oreo assembly line in protest of parent company Mondelez International's record earnings while employees continue to deal with low wages and few benefits. This snack smackdown will see which way the cookie crumbles.
